Wi Fi on or off
Just received my kindle wi fi today and so far I love it. I have been playing with it all afternoon and it seems pretty easy to get accustom to the features. One thing I can't seem to find info on is whether or not I should turn off the wi fi when it is not needed, or leave it on all the time. Battery draw issue or not?
Thanks |

Yes, it is a major drain on the battery and there really is no reason to have the wireless on unless you are purchasing books, using the browser, or subscribe to periodicals that are automatically delivered daily (and even then you only need it on overnight).
Enjoy your new Kindle! |

Turn it off aside from the fact you might be on a plane and forget to turn it off>

Maybe its just me but I leave the WiFi on.
It seems to disable itself when the Kindle goes to sleep and re-active when I wake the Kindle up. So when you aren't using the Kindle, the WiFi puts no extra drain on the battery. I have ordered books online when away and when I come home and turn on the Kindle, it takes a few second for the WiFi and signal strength to appear at the top. Then the book that was "delivered" to the Kindle several hours ago finally downloads. So to me it seems the only real battery drain will be having it on while you are reading and even then you would have to read for a very loooong time before it needs charging. |

Personally, I wish there was a on/off switch for the wireless instead of the menu item. |

I leave mine on and top off my battery about once a week. Why do I leave wifi on? I have Calibre set up to send me 8 feeds daily and leaving the wifi on makes the process seamless for me.
