Prefer this, but mostly because he's 76 and still doing it!

I like it.
I do favour Mr. Cohen's renditions, young or old. He held a three-hour concert here on Thursday night. Another Canadian to compare renditions is K.D.Lang. (There is a studio version with better sound but I can't find it at the moment. There have been many renditions of this song posted in the "What are you listening to right now?" thread. Rufus Wainwright's version is also very good - looks like the Canadians have got this one sewn up! |

About the 3 Halleluya's, I do prefer K.D. Lange rendition: it is more ... everything. She is powerful, that lady, and has a lot of soul.
Of Leonard Cohen, I really like what I think is his best song ever. After so many years it still moves me as it did when I bought that very record in Montreal, lyrics, music, voice. Just wonderful. Too bad that 40 years have passed already. Like a song. Famous Blue Raincoat - Leonard Cohen Last edited by beppe; 12-05-2010 at 01:49 AM. |

For Copyright reasons I was unable to listen to Jeff Buckley's cover version of Halleluya. Of the versions I could listen to, I have to say I absolutely loved K.D. Lang's
She has a great voice anyway. However, you can't beat the unbeatable man himself Leonard Cohen when he sings Halleluya. You also can't beat Frank Sinatra's version of My Way. I find that the original artist's recordings are the definitive versions of the songs anyway. Just my opinion. |

I like Jeff Buckley's version. He has a very nice tenor voice, and puts a lot of feeling into the piece. I had never heard it before; thanks for putting it up for us.
Plus, I can sing along better... ![]() |

I have three versions of this song on my ipod.
![]() Leonard Cohen (of course!), K.D. Lang, and the version sung by Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris at the Help for Haiti now concert. Anybody else have that one? It is simply gorgeous. I like this one, too, so I may go for four. Thanks for sharing it! |

I add another version. I prefer female voices, so this is my favorite. Though as to the original question, i prefer Buckley's.

One can get stoned or drunk on Leonard Cohen's music. It's mesmerizing.
![]() Thanks HT, for bringing him up. ![]() Here's a Dutch singer: Lisa Lois, and the man himself with the sisters. |
