Non-Sony Skins/Covers

When I bought my T1 a few years ago I got one of those eBay silicon/plastic covers. I didn't want the book-style Sony one, but I wanted to cover up the really shiny black plastic. I was kind of disappointed with the cover at first because it seemed to always get stuff stuck to it because of some kind of static cling (hair, etc.) but that went away and now it's awesome. Anyone know of anywhere online that's selling those for the T3? I never did see that any were made for the T2.

eBay is a venue not a seller. I'm sure someone on there is selling something that'll work for you. Have you searched eBay or done a Google search? That's where I'd start.

I used to get skins from Decalgirl but stopped because I get new readers too often and don't bother with the extra expense. But that's just me obviously.

I'll keep an eye out. When I say "eBay" I mean the "cheap" mass produced stuff that the vendors are all getting from the same place.

I sell on eBay and I can tell you that's just not true. You're assuming something that has no basis in fact.

I am 28 years old. I have been buying/selling on eBay for at least 10 years. I know what eBay is. I know that there are many kinds of sellers on there. I also have been to many REAL LIFE flea markets. ONE use of eBay (just like physical Flea Markets) is to offer those that buy items in bulk a place to resell said items. When there is a "VENDOR" with hundreds of products for BIN (with quantities listed as 10+ or 100+) priced for less than $5 or $10 (when even Wal-Mart retails similar products for more than that) AND these items are OFTEN shipping out directly from China, etc... Yes, I consider that cheap and mass produced. I have enjoyed my secondary market T1 silicon cover - it has lasted me this long and still looks great. However, it WAS inexpensive and I've never found any kind of branding for it.

I'll check out decalgirl.com

I think it's interesting that whatever secondary manufacturers there are basically quit designing these for Sony readers after the T1.

That's all fine and dandy but it still doesn't mean they all buy from the same supplier which you said earlier nor is it an eBay product. It's some cheap junk sold on eBay sure but it's not an eBay product. eBay doesn't sell products. They are a venue - a place for other vendors/sellers to sell their products. And there are a great many places selling cheap junk from China.

I've been on eBay since darn near the beginning in the mid-90's. My advice to you would be to pick better sellers.

Decalgirl doesn't have anything for the T3 yet. At least, not when I looked anyways.

The T3 is not shiny. It has a nice rubbery feel to it. I haven't seen a 3rd party non-folio type case anywhere. I think it may be hard to find anyway because one of the features of this model is when the cover is closed it sleeps the book and when you open it it wakes the book.

You may be better off with a decalgirl stiicker. Although looking at their website they don't have one for the T3, but you can customize the size I believe. (The T3 is smaller than T1, or T2 and it just a wee be larger than the PRS-300/350). Decalgirl was what I used with my T1 because the shiny there did bug me. Or finding a sleeve for it.

Went to site. Looked for something under sony ereader - no luck. Did find skins for Kobo, Kindle, etc. Did you find a Sony T2 specific skin or something that worked for it?

I'm a matte person myself. That way ambient light or the sun won't bounce off the skin.

When I bought the T1 as a gift to my mom, I bought a Gecko case. It looks and feels great, while protects the reader awesomely.

I have just bought the T3 and the Gecko covers were a no brainer to me. It is well made, and well designed. It's a good quality product at a very reasonable price. So I bought theirs right away.

I realize its been a year since this was posted, but are you still happy with your Gecko case?
Has anyone else tried one of the Gecko cases for the Sony t3 or t3s?
Or has anyone found a different case that they would recommend..I will soon be receiving a new T3s and will be looking for a nice case for it.

Yes, I am still delighted. Beware that the cover adds some bulk to the otherwise very slim reader. For example, without the cover I could slide the T3 easily into the inside pocket of my coat. Not anymore with the Gecko cover.

Cheers!
