Highlighters

I do not use the highlight function on my Kindle. In every book that I have dowmloaded there are faint dotted lines under sections of text on nearly every page and begin with a number followed by "highlighters". At the bottom of the page there is a function for toggling off highlighters. They do not turn off. I did not put them there, where did they come from? Do I have a defect?

Hello,

I think what you are seeing are the "popular highlights," that is, it is showing you what passages are most frequently highlighted by other Kindle users.

If you go to "Settings" from the menu on the home screen, there is an option to turn it off.

"nearly every page" Wow, what book are you reading? I actually enjoy seeing what others have highlighted! Interactive and thought-provoking.

Thanks, I thought I had ghost images from a defective eInk screen or something. I read a lot of classics. Some of these hightights make sense, but some, who knows?
Knowing that, then I will pay more attention to what was highlighted. I might learn something.
