DR1000 Companion software 2.0: merging not working?

Dear all,
I might have come across this problem in the forum messages, but I could not find the message this was discussed.
Just moments ago my dr1000s updated its pc software, and I can't seem to create merged versions of my annotations.
Any pointers to fix the problem? Can I only downgrade the companion software? my device reports software version as 1.7.1

My windoww XP computer never ran the companion merge program. Would always end with an error. I had to merge file on my laptop. Xournal will merge the files just fine.

Thanks for the response, but I may be getting kinda confused here.
So your laptop did not run the companion? If not, what else?
Do I setup Xournal on dr1000s?

My desktop would not run the merge function of the companion software, but but my laptop would. Both ran XP. So I would have to connect my DR1000 to laptop to merge scribbles to or with a PDF file. Marcx added a function to his port of Xournal that merges scribbles to a pdf file. He has a version, I think it is up to 9, that runs on 1.7.1. I never needed the companion pc software after that.
