It makes me sad too. One of the few good memories with my dad was when he and I called off work to watch the first shuttle launch.

One of the many good memories with my husband was being at Cape Kennedy to watch a launch in person.

It seem the shuttle program did its job and now we're moving into a more commercial era what with things like SpaceShip1 and private launches etc. Space tourism (for the very rich) and yeah maybe to Mars, but probably lots of unmanned missions to continue.
