Update 2.3 failing

My kindle DX has 2.1.1 firmware. Before trying to update to 2.3, I undid the changes I had made, namely the screensaver and USB networking hacks, and editing the showlog file to put back the privacy intruding lines which were commented out.

Despite this, the 2.3 update will not take.

Does anyone know of a log file or something I could look at to try to figure out why?

On your Kindle; type the following:
;debugOn

then
;dumpMessages

This will create a log file on the USB disk drive which you can then read... Check what the failure is and report here...

If I remember correctly, enter in searchbox:

;dumpMessages

it will give you a logfile in the usual documents.

Did you install browser-pdf-download hack? For me, it was the problem.

I'm guessing this has something to do with the screensaver hack but I'm not sure how to revert it.

Ah, made some progress. Iread somewhere that to uninstall the screen saver hack one just had to remove the new pictures, but in fact there is an uninstaller that has to be run. Update is now working.

Thanks Alec, but I already got it to work by using the screen_saver uninstaller instead of just deleting the screen_saver directory.
