Feeds to Kindle without being charged by Amazon

Hi all.

Is it possible to get Calibre feeds wirelessly, without being charged by Amazon? I'm new to Kindle, this is what I understand: I can email feeds in mobi format to name@kindle.com, Amazon will charge by Mb to deliver it to me, or I can email it to name@free.kindle.com for free and then transfer through USB. Is there another option?

Just connect your kindle to calibre using the USB cable and transfer the downloaded news directly

Thanks Kovid. I was hoping there was a way to get it from computer to Kindle without cable, just like from Amazon :-)

No big deal to connect the device for few minutes every morning.

You could theoretically use the web browser to do it, but since I haven't got around to implementing a mobile version for the calbre content server, it will be hard to navigate the normal calibre generated web site on the Kindle

Is it me or Calibre, but communication via USB to my Kindle DX is incredibly slow. Every time Calibre detects the Kindle, it spends literally 4 or 5 *minutes* downloading the entire book list from the device. There doesn't appear to be any way to stop this painful process and evidently, Calibre throws all that information away when you exit.

To make matters worse, syncing up files is similarly painfully slow.

Currently, the only way to use Calibre reasonably (and it's a wonderful program for this), is to use it to download the feeds I want, then exit and then connect the Kindle and copy all files - in just a few seconds.

Is there some critical configuration setting for the Kindle that I am missing? This can't possibly be the way Calibre was designed to operate.

It's not you. It was crashing here all the time without being able to get the list of books from DX. The latest version, 0.6.3, has fixed it, now it takes 30-40 seconds to connect and get the list.

Wow, you're right! It went from from taking 4 minutes to 16 seconds.

Now if the column sizes in the Job List could be saved, I'd be darn near ecstatic... ;>
