Ebook readers in Brazil

Here in Brazil, there is almost no choise on ebook readers. I could only find one, very expensive, big and with only 8mb for memory. But an opportunity has come up, a friend from canada is coming here, so I have been thinking of sending him the money for him to buy an ebook reader for me.

But there are some inconveniences. I don´t have a international credit card, so I don´t think there is a way for me to buy ebooks. I'll have to download free ebooks then, probably in .pdf. I can´t spend more then 300$ =P.

Although of those problems a ebook reader would be very useful. As a law student with backproblems, huge books can cause a lot of pain.
So I come to you with a question, Is there any magical devices that can solve my problems?

I appreciate your pacience.
