Author mapper and author initials

I prefer A.B. Foobar, no spaces. Metadata downloads sometimes add a space (A. B. Foobar), ends up splitting books into 2 authors. Would like to use the author mapper to change it. Regex?

The Quality Check plugin has an option to fix author initials. Can be set for spaces, no spaces, with or without fullstops. I fixed all my names that way.

Weird and wonderful. That A. B. Tarfoo format is my standard for author name and I have never had a split into 2 authors. That takes an & in calibre and a , on my Kobo.

No, when I already have an author without the spaces, and add a new book, ends up splitting them so new books are seperate.

Quality check set the Calibre Metadata. It does not change the Book. For that you need to Polish.
When you Add, Calibre normally reads the book (OPF) unless you have set Add to use filename.

CopyToLibrary will add a new entry if there is no match, OTOH it will add the book to the existing (wishlist) entry, but frequently fails to update the empty fields

I suspect there is a conflict in the books (per file) metadata with the OPF.

I want to change it in the author mapper. I can make a regex to match it. I don't know what to put in replace.

Without trying it, I think the search should be

([a-zA-Z]\.) ([a-zA-Z])

replace would be

\1\2

Agh! I just tried this, to set all of them to A.B. style. The preferences for QC are set to A.B. And it just changed every applicable author to A. B. with a space!

What the hell? How do I repair this other than manually?

EDIT: Oh, that was just a check, not a fix. Nevermind...

??? This is one of my frequent used fixes . The only fails is with multiple authors that are mixed version errors. Those need hand fixing ( Manage Authors in the Tag Browser)

You are supposed to use the FIX section ONLY on those that need fixing.

Those can be found by using Check Authors Initials (it uses the same setting as Fix) to get results that do not match the setting

Thanks for the further explanation. Check my edit. I didn't realize that "check" didn't mean "fix", that's two separate steps. Everything is good now.

Tried it. Worked! Also better regex than the one I came up with.
