Windows to Mac
I can't find a specific, non outdated, thread to help out.
I'm considering on moving from Windows to Mac. Can I move my library over? Does Calibre on a Mac do everything that it does on Windows? Is there anything I need to watch out for? Any help would be most appreciated! |

Use Export then Import rather than trying to copy the library files and settings.
I think Calibre for Linux, Mac and Windows are the same functionality apart from some plug-ins that are really kind of "wrappers" to Windows programs. I moved from Windows to Linux. Don't store the Calibre Library on Cloud or Network storage, only on a local drive (SATA, IDE, USB, SCSI are local) and not on FAT32 or exFAT formatted storage. |

Thank you Quoth. I had forgotten about Linux, I'll consider it also. Just NOT Windows 11!

I did the same move some years ago and just copied the database and the book files folder over to the Mac as I have little customisation of Calibre and that worked for me. I was not aware of the Export option mentioned or it was not available in Calibre at the time.

Case of folder and file names is the biggest issue when switching OS.
Windows does not care (or fix) if you change the metadata (title and/or Author) Case and leaves the folder 'as was'. THE BOOK -> The Book OTOH Linux derived OS does care. resulting in lost files. Step 2) after transfer should always run the full Library Maintenance and fix. ![]() |

Thanks to you all. It does sound like I can get Calibre to work on the Mac (maybe jump thru some hoops!). Now to look at my other programs that I require (youtube downloader, a way to make the speaker louder). I have a much loved program that I know won't work on the Mac - however, it won't work on Windows 11 either. If my old windows 10 laptop wasn't dying, I wouldn't be in this mess!

Take a look at Crossover (paid but simple to use and is supported), PlayOnMac (free support patchy and not reliable in my experience) or Wine (Free but complicated to setup) to get your Windows program working on a Mac You can set the emulator to be Win7 / Win10 to get it running.
