There used to be chess on some Kobo models, but it was removed from the firmware just before I bought my H2O (Original 6.8″ Aura HD type with SD card slot).

PBchess now works on the Libra 2. It's free to try, and just a few bucks if you want to really play.
One drawback is that apparently you can't exit without rebooting the Kobo.

I was using it for long time in my Kobo glo hd and I really liked it a lot.

The problem is they don't update it anymore (I contacted the creator and he told me) and the last time I tried to install it in my libra 2 (about a month ago, 2 times) it crashes in the first welcome screen.

Did you managed to install it?

The truth is I bought the Libra 2 for pbchess.. but I didn't even thought that they will not support it anymore... Now I regret that I didn't bought an android e-ink tablet...

You bought a $180 e-book reader so that it could (poorly) substitute for a $50 portable chess board?

Yes, I installed it without any problems, it works and is fully functional (I got the new serial number for free as I had a licence for the Kindle version). Just make sure to install the latest version; the previous one always got stuck in the language selection screen because it didn't support the Libra 2 yet.

Well I had the same problem and as far as I remember I installed the latest version which seems to be the 2022.5.19 (Well I assume the version numbers are the date when the update been released, so even if it was on May of 2022 I installed after the release)

Pocketbook has chess natively, ten difficulty levels, I don't know how good is it because I barely know the rules. I don't know if You can install Pbchess on Pocketbook. Of course You can install Koreader.

Otherwise is better some android eink device.

But the better thing of course is to be able to install Pbchess on Your Kobo.
