Problems with USB on Mac

Hi all,

I just bought a new Iliad, and just trying to figure out how it works. I can't get wifi going for the life of me, so currently I'm transferring files by USB. However when I eject the device from my MacBook Pro, it immediately reconnects and I either have to be very quick or accept the message saying that I didn't unmount the device correctly. Is there some way of easily fixing this?

Thanks,
Colin

I am having a problem with USB on both my iMac and on Vista 64-bit.

I was never able to mount my iLiad on Vista.

It mounted on the Mac, I transfered a bunch of books, but I did have the same problem as above, that it would not disconnect.

Last night I tried to mount it on the iMac again, and I just couldn't get it to connect - no PC Connected message on the iLiad and no drive icon on the desktop:-(

I thought maybe is just a bad cable, but didn't have another one handy (wish iRex had gone "standard" with Mini-USB.) But maybe not.

Yeah, I've have problems actually getting it to connect, too - although disconnecting and reconnecting usually works. I find it works better if the Iliad is at a menu rather than with a document open, which seems odd.

It's somewhat annoying, anyway. In general I love the device but the usability is pretty low so far.

Cheers,
Colin

Duh, I had been using a stand-alone USB cable, plugging it directly from the computer to the iLiad.

Today I tried the power/USB adapter that came with the iLiad (which I had been using only for charging) and when I plugged the USB cable into the adapter and the PC, everything worked perfectly.

Moral of the story: Use the provided power/USB adapter to connect the iLiad to the PC.

Lemming -
iRex purposely made it that way - they apparently found problems when it was connecting to a PC while an active document was on screen, so they disabled the connection until you are back at a menu. I believe I read that in one of the update documents.

Sonist - not sure I get that - you were using the connector on the top of the unit to hook up to the PC?
The USB connection on top of the unit is for plugging in USB thumb/flash drives - then the iLiad can read documents that are on the mounted thumb drive. The USB connection on the "travel hub" is for connecting it up to a computer to make the iLiad appear to be a mounted hard drive to the computer.

Yep. In one of the recent software updates for the iLiad they changed it so that you can only connect to a PC when you are on the content lister screen. Otherwise you could do things like modify/delete a document from your PC while the iLiad has it open on the screen, which caused all sorts of problems/corruption, etc. It should be in the manual and/or release notes, but nobody ever reads those.

Exactly. The USB on top of the iLiad is for attaching memory. The USB on the travel hub is for connecting to a PC. They're different kinds of USB connectors.
