numbers near title disappeared

Hi, in my library screen, with the list of books, suddenly the number to the left of every book title disappeared. I has not been able to show it again. Please, may you help me? Thanks in advance

BTW, what is the usage of that number?

You can turn those number on and off from Preferences => Change calibre behavior => Look & feel and either add or remove the check from the Show row numbers in the book list item. See attached image.

The numbers show the lines for the book list.

To enable/disable them go to:

Preference / Look & Feel

On the tab "Main Interface" in the lower half of the screen look for
"Show row numbers in the book list"

Depending on the state of the checkbox, the numbers will be shown or not.
