Unnumbered series

Going to guess the answer here is 'no,' but:

I have some books in a series that doesn't have a specific order. I set all the series index to "0" in this case. Is there some way to hide the 0s in specific in the column/book details panel?

The answer is yes.

Make sure the tags column is setup to work as a collection and just populate the tags column with the series name. You will have to remove any rubbish in the tags column that comes from the metadata of some eBooks. By using the tags column you don't need a series number. I use it for books not in a series or books in a series where I don't want a series number.

You can also use a composite column with the simple {series} template. Beware that composite columns can slow down Calibre.

But why would you want a composite column when a column already exists that will do what you want (as long as you configure the driver to use Tags) and no slow down?

Assuming you want to see "Foo [11]" when there is a series index, and "Foo" when there isn't (index == 0), the best solution is a composite column. Something like
Code:
{series} {series_index:'cmp($, 0, '', '',strcat('[', $, ']'))'}
You will still need to use the series column for sorting.
