Export notes/highlights from personal doc?

I know it's possible to export kindle notes/highlights from purchased content, but is there a way to export highlights from a personal doc? Basically I want to transfer my notes from personal docs to my computer. Would there be other ways? Another thing: is there a way to send screenshots over Wi-Fi, or is that only possible by directly plugging in the kindle? I'm just brainstorming ideas here... Btw this is for my Kindle Paperwhite 3.

Your Kindle is supposed to have an export option in the notebook menu, and it's supposed to work with even sideloaded ebooks. Do you see it?

The reason I am saying "supposed" is that I just checked my Kindle PW and I could not export the notes from a sideloaded ebook.

What's really weird here is that the Kindle app for iOS or Android, and the Kindle Fire, all have that export option, and it works on sideloaded ebooks.

There's the clippings text file, if nothing else.

I just double-checked, and while you don't have the option to export notes in personal docs from an e-ink Kindle, if you make the notes on your Kindle, they will then appear in the doc in the app, where you can export. When I did it, I had the option to export using my email, gmail, google drive, or One drive. I chose One drive, and it exported my notes and highlights as an html file. It looks like this:

Kindle has never supported export from Personal Docs, I’m guessing because there is no email client on Kindle. Fire, iOS, Android Kindle apps use an email client on the device.

Nope, I don't see it on any side loaded books. So it seems like that isn't an option.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't see my personal docs on the kindle app for Mac. They appear in the cloud across my Kindle Paperwhites, but I only see purchased content in the Mac Kindle app...

Yeah, but Kindle does export from Amazon-purchased ebooks, so the lack of an email client is clearly not the sticking point.

I think the "app" mentioned above was the Kindle apps for iOS and Android, and not the ones for Windows or macOS.

You keep writing that kindles can't sent email because they do not have an email client. An email client is not required to send mail, a mail transfer agent is required instead. An application running on a linux system with a mail transfer agent can send an email with one line of code. Kindles have a mail transfer agent. See below for an example.

Also, since kindles communicate with amazon servers, they obviously could transfer a message and identification to a server and the server could send the message (e.g. highlights and notes) by email.

The issue isn’t that Amazon couldn’t enable exporting of notes on Kindle for Personal Documents, they choose not to (for whatever reason — it does not seem the server side impact would be very significant).

This is just one more way Docs are not full class citizens in the Kindle ecosystem. It is what it is.

Try using Kindle Mate. This is computer software. Just download and install it, plug your Kindle into the usb port of your pc/mac and your highlights and notes will be copied over into the software.

Unfortunately, the official website is all in Chinese, but this is the download page from the site:
http://kmate.me/download/

You might find this useful too:
http://kmate.me/demo/

And there must be youtube vids relating to the software somewhere.
