need to replace my Kobo Aura 1

I love the size, but it is so slow as to be unusable. I have to press really hard on the screen (usually more than once to get my finger positioned just so) and then wait for it to work - turning pages is a frustrating thing as I'm a really fast reader. I have an ipad mini which is about the same size, it is extremely responsive, but battery life is poor and I don't like the Apple ecosystem. I only care about reading on the device, thus it needs to have fast page turns and good ppi. Too bad the newest Kindle 8" fire has such poor ppi. Can be either Android or ereader. I've researched a bunch of them, but most of the Androids have poor ppi. Am I missing a great one, or should I just wait and hope one comes out soon. |

All e ink have slower page turns than led screen tablets. The latter are effectively instantaneous if you enable animations.

Good idea. I can't get the new firmware to download off my phone hotspot, so I'll have to wait until libraries, starbucks, etc opens up to get that. I'll try it before I buy something else.

Huawei media pad, retina quality. But wanting better than 720p on small screensis a specialised ask, so you have to travel through specs and reviews Strangely, some 5 inch phones have crazy high ppi. Marketeers will happily push 4k pixels on 5 inch screens at you. I would not want to read on one. Would be crisp though 😋

I got this week an used Aura One and it's just a little slower than my PPW4. But the slowness is minimal. Running the last firmware. No problem here. |

Thanks everyone. Obviously there is something wrong with my KA1 - I'll get it updated and see where it stands.

The calibration is another issue. It is off and tap off centre for most of the icons and selecting a word. I usually compensate fairly quickly, but, it then messes me up when I use one of my other Kobo devices.

So, I did a factory reset, downloaded the most current update and it is sooo much better than before. Thanks for the suggestions. My only quibble with it is the background is not as white a I like, but a really small quibble. Yea, its usable now.
