Need advice on iLiad 2nd Ed...

Hi people,

Was hoping you guys could help me out, especially users of the iLiad? The only thing holding me back from purchasing an iLiad is the battery life and start up. Was hoping you guys could help me out...
  1. Been reading in this forum and it was said that the iLiad takes 40-45s to boot up? Does it mean that I have to wait this duration every time I want to continue reading/take notes?
  2. Is there a sleep/hibernate function on it where I can just turn it on and immediately continue from where I left off?
  3. How is the battery life?

I used to own a Sony PRS-505 till I lost it, and was pretty happy with it like the ability to boot up/wake up from sleep almost instantly. Only thing drawing me towards the iLiad is the ability to take notes/annotate with a stylus.

Thanks in advanced,

C

1. Boot time is boot time. If you don't turn off the device, you don't have to wait for boot when you want to use it.
2. No sleep/hibernate function.
3. Continual use last for 10-15 hours.

Boot time is probably about 40 seconds. Alittle longer than the 505, but not terribly noticeable. On the other hand, the fact that it doesn't go to sleep like the 505 can be a problem if you are using it for frequently throughout the day, but still need to shut it down in between. Then you have to wait each time. For me it hasn't been a terrible inconvenience, since I usually read at night - I boot it up, by the time I settle in bed it's ready, then I turn it off at the end - the battery lasted almost a week this way.

I am hoping that a Sleep function will be implemented, now that the source has been opened and (talented:-) volunteers are working on it.

The stock software and UI is not much worse than the 505, but nowhere near as good as the PRS-700.

I haven't used it to take notes, but people seem to like it.

For me, the screen is what makes it all worth it - it is considerably larger than the 505/700 and (again for me) it makes reading much more book-like.
