Amazon has announced an updated Fire HD 8 model. From the press release:

Availability

The all-new Fire HD 8 comes in four fun color options: Black, Marine Blue, Punch Red, and Canary Yellow, and is available for pre-order today starting at $79.99. Fire HD 8 will begin shipping on October 4; order the new Fire HD 8 today at www.amazon.com/firehd8.

Fire HD 8 tablet cases are also available in matching colors and can stand in both landscape and portrait orientations—only $29.99.

In addition to the Fire HD 8, Amazon also today introduced the all-new Fire HD 8 Kids Edition tablet for $129.99, available for pre-order at: www.amazon.com/firehd8kidsedition. Looks to me like just a refresh with no major new features.

i've got the 6th Gen, same 1.3 processor, same 1.5 ram. I can't do much with it and wouldn't buy another one.

Yay!! I'm not in the market for a new Fire since I have an old version, and honestly like some of its features offered back then even if it's slow, but I rarely use it other than for digital comics, digital cookbooks and color needs.

I'm salivating waiting to hear - and hopefully not be disappointed - of any new released e-ink models this year. Here's hoping but you never know. They are trying to push their Alexa devices quite a bit, which gives a bit more incentive to release another fire that supports it, so that doesn't necessarily guarantee other e-reader releases.
