			hi,

I Intalled calibre portable (Win) ver3.28.0 on my thumb drive recently. I have no device since I use calibre to read/browse the books on various computers and tablets. Calibre installed on the thumb drive under root\calibre portable\calibre Calibre settings installed under root\calibre portable\calibre settings Calibre library installed under \calibre portable\calibre library I created my own libraries (through calibre) under root\calibre portable\Math_ebooks root\calibre portable\Math_Notes root\calibre portable\Electronics_ebooks root\calibre portable\Physics_ebooks root\calibre portable\Electronics_Notes root\calibre portable\Physics_Notes During setting/sorting my books into various libraries, I noticed that some of these Libraries stopped showing up on my drop down list shown in the attachment shown in red boxes. In the attachment the Electronics_ebooks library is missing! I did try reinstalled the Electronics_ebooks library but then I find some other library goes missing! Then I tried reinstalling the missing library but some other library goes missing!... I also noticed that the drop down arrow (Green circle) which is normally present in the menu for libraries is now missing. My query is:- 1. Is there a limit on the number of libraries you can create? It looks to me like that limit is ~6. 2. Is this by design? 3. If this is a corruption/bug of some sort can I just delete the Calibre Settings directory and run Calibre-portable.exe? 4. Or should I just delete Calibre folders root\calibre portable\calibre root\calibre portable\calibre settings and reinstall Calibre Portable (Win) V3.28.0? Please Help pzaw |

I don't think the Library icon ever has a drop down arrow. The drop down arrow is only present if an icon has a default action, AFAIK the Library icon has no default action. BR |

Just a little remark. You don't need to use so much different libraries. Just create a custom column (like tags) to identify your criteria and use this to select your area with a query or as virtual libraries. This will save you a lot of work and headache for future maintenance and is more efficient. Use different libraries if metadata are and its representation/usage/purpose are totally different. DD |

Virtual Libraries will allow you to search across all 'books'. FX a search for tags:"=Quantum Mechanics" might find 'books' in the Physics Books and Physics Notes virtual libraries. BR |

thanks I am easily confused by all the options. I am not familiar with "custom columns" but I am willing to learn. The way I did it was what came to me first while mucking around. So thanks for pointing out that there is another way.

I think I am just old fashoned and want to think of calibre as a room full of bookshelves and different bookshelf for different subject. I need to get use to the "all books in one bookcase" and use tags to to find my books.

@pzaw - think of calibre's Virtual Libraries as the equivalent of sections (children, young adult, fiction, reference etc) in a bricks and mortar Library.

One popular way to set them up is with Genre tagging ==>> Managing subgroups of books, for example “genre” BR |
