Title Metadata
Is there a way of "opting out" of the mandatory separation of the title and series when downloading the metadata?
Or at least re-offer the original title when changing the metadata? After I change it once, I can't get Amazon or GR to re-offer the original default title. Amazon titles offer genre details as well as series info, and Goodreads takes their title names strictly from Amazon and doesn't account for series info. I know that Calibre has changed to make the series and titles separate, but there has to be a way of regaining what the defaults were. I would like to be able to opt to have the default title. If I make the mistake of changing the metadata on a book, I can't get it back to the original state. Short of re-adding the book in it's original form I can't get the original titles back. |

Huh? You can always change the title at any point of time to whatever you want it to be. And you can configure metadata plugins to not touch the title in Preferences->Metadata download

Nevermind I can't seem to get this down right; But the thing is that I know there are more than one title available in metadatas, but I never get it.
I put my settings back to default. Last edited by Rellwood; 12-20-2017 at 10:11 PM. |

I know about setting the preferences not to touch the title, but what about if I want to revert a title that has been separated from the series (in a previous metadata download) and there is no longer the option with the longer title?

I have no idea what you are asking. What does title separated from series mean? titles are always separate from series, they are different metadata fields.

I would like to opt out of having the series and title be downloaded into separate columns.
Instead of Calibre reading the call as being Title(series) and giving me {title}{series} I see it in the log...it shows that Amazon or whomever is saying that a book is listed with the series, but when it comes out for selecting the book, there isn't an option with the series listed. |

Having series and title be in separate columns has absolutely nothing to do with how metadata is downloaded. And no metadata download has always and will always put series and title in their own columns.
I think you are confusing this with the series name amazon sometimes appends to titles. calibre tries to detect that using heuristics, but that is not in general possible, since it is not possible for a computer to recognize series names unambiguously as they are simply part of the title and not separated in any semantic fashion. |

IIRC Calibre has always had separate title and series columns. The Goodreads default is separate title and series information. Where do you believe you see these two items combined? |

Dear booklover,
many ebooks do not get the original book name when downloading, but an unreadable name. How can it give the original name with Caliber without having to edit it by hand. With about 400 ebooks this is a lot of work. sincerly by sandie |
