Rumor: Tungsten T6 / Tungsten 2005

Sammy e-mailed us about the latest rumors of palmOne's T6 - or what could be known as the Tungsten 2005:

The unofficial announcement of the Palm developers is that the new (T6) will be called Tungsten 2005 and should have the following features:
OS 6 (with scalable fonts)

Bluetooth

Wavelan

1 GB Flash

3 Megapixel Cam

New connector (ethernet included)

VGA resolution 640 x 480

Graffiti 2 plus (with voice commands)

Interface to iTunes (Apple iPod)

The device is maximum 200 grams

Automatic software update over internet

Compatibility mode for pocket Windows is built in

Initial price is around $400

Launch date approx end of April

I highlighted the most interesting features. So if this information is correct, we will have the new killer PDA by the end of next month! Damn, it really does look sweet!

Sorry my ignorance, but what is "WaveLan"? I was hoping he meant WiFi with this.

Cool! It's about time we got some REAL fun with new PalmOS device rumors. This device finally seems impressive. I heard rumors before, a little after the T5, that they were working on a Palm device that would knock your socks off. This may be what they were talking about!

Looks very exciting, and I'm really curious about what it means to be "pocket Windows compatible". Is that file compatible, or could it be possible that you can even run Windows apps... surely it's too much to hope that it has Windows Mobile also????

But especially delightful to see it has OS6/Cobalt finally!!!! That bodes well for the future of PalmSource.

Wouldn't that be great if PalmOne is finally going to look at the traditional PDA market as viable and a great testing ground for new and powerful feature sets!

What I think it means (which would explain a lot of rumors, and confirm some of my suspicions) is that it will come out of the box ready to use Microsoft ActiveSync rather than PalmSource's HotSync, and will sync with Outlook rather than Palm Desktop. It's the logical progression to enhancing the PIM apps to look more like Outlook: make the integration with Outlook even tighter by using MS's own conduits. It also explains certain stock analysts' misperceptions of some of PalmOne's recent announcements.

At this point, I don't doubt there is another PDA coming from PalmOne. However, I do wonder if the all the hardware specs listed here will make it into the new device (especially @ the $400 price point). 3Mp camera + 1GB flash + dual wireless? However, if it has even a majority of these features, it could be a killer PDA.

It's not a real Palm PDA rumor until it's accompanied by terrible Photoshop pics.

This sounds promising, but I think I'll have to let all you guys beta test it for me while MarkSpace updates their Missing Sync to handle this new behemoth. (You know, Mac guy here.)

I do hope its true BUT the sky-high specs makes me wary. The maxim 'when it's too good to be true, then it probably is' apply here. This looks more like a dream device than a true unreleashed unit. Also if its as close to release as speculated then I expect FCC filing leaks or unauthorized photos from OEM manufacturers in China or Taiwan.

If however its true, then I am not sure how they were able to cramp that much for just $400. This looks like a $699 device, heck the Treo 650 sells for that much and that device dont hold a candle to the rumored device.

All the Palm lovers will upgrade to this if its materializes...but I am not holding my breath.

Calling it Tungsten 2005 is also a bad move, then this device will look old in 2006... and from the way I see it, the next Tungsten if its there, would probably be the last of the high-end PDA form factor from PalmOne, so this unit will probably last at least until Autumn 2006...

Looks like the announcement leaked out a few days too early. Probably wasn't supposed to be announced till the first of April.

Agreed. Sounds to me more like a list of "what I would love to see" than a list of features of an actual upcoming device. It just sounds too perfect!

It does seem too perfect to be true...

But if this is true, I'm gonna be saving money for a new PDA... Sure, this Clie is nice, but that is just... Like... Amazing.
