Calibre too much slow?

Hello,
I'ld like to know if it is a problem of the setting of my PC (Q6600 at 2.4GHz with 8GB of RAM) or Calibre has become much slower? Now, for the conversion of a simple 400-500 pages .docs file use more than 1GB of RAM and from 5 to 10 minutes, also if I've the system paging file on a fast SSD disk and the system on another SSD disk.
Many thanks,
Gianni

400-500 pages is not a small document to convert. Of course it will take a good amount of ram to convert. As for speed, such a conversion will not be right away. 5-10 minutes does not seem excessive at all.

conversion time is heavily affected by document Input and Output format and complexity.

Just wait till you get a 24Hr conversion (usually has lots of tables, images)

- and conversion will be slower if the WP program has been used as if it were a typewriter, e.g. successive tabs and spaces to align text horizontally etc. If the output EPUB is riddled with things like °° (where the ° represents a space) that's usually a good indication of that.

Best, and fastest, results are achieved by using the WP program's template and style facilities (assuming Word or Writer).
