Question Calibre Email To Kindle Stopped Working

I've used Calibre alongside my Kindle 3 for the past 4 years with no problem at all. Since yesterday, books emailed from Calibre to my Kindle no longer arrive. I tried using the test email function on Calibre and it reports success. Also, I can email to Kindle manually using gmail. It's probably something simple but I just can't figure out what's changed. Any ideas anyone?

I just logged in to the forum to see if anyone else had this problem. I've noticed it today for the first time while sending via outlook.com (which Calibre labels as "Hotmail").

I've checked the settings against the SMTP settings on this Microsoft page but when I test the settings in Calibre it reports "Authentication Failed".

The same details are used from my Android phone and my iPad to send emails via Outlook.com, but only Calibre is having this problem.

I've looked through the commits to the code-base on GitHub and there don't seem to be any recent code changes which mention email functionality, but if it''s not a Calibre-related change then why can other devices still send email and Calibre can't?

I'm having the same problem and was told that one of the books messed up my index and to delete all the books and send them again one by one. I have over 1000 books on my Kindle and that seems like a pretty major step. Books sent from Amazon work flawlessly ... not the ones thru Calibre ... It is very frustrating to have it suddenly stop working. I love this software. I have 4 Kindles, so how can it be the index if none of them are receiving the books thru different email addresses?

Many of us are having this problem, see this thread as well:

None of the solutions suggested in there have worked for me yet, but still hoping someone will figure it out.

I realised what the problem was in my case: I recently turned on 2-step verification for my outlook.com ("Hotmail") account, which means that the password I log in to the website with will not work for a third-party (i.e., Calibre).

If anyone else has this problem and they've turned on 2-step verification for outlook.com, look in outlook.com's Account Settings > Security, and you'll find how to get a one-off, application-specific password which you can then use instead of your normal account password.

In summar: my fault, not Calibre's.

Thank you! I've been trying to figure it out for 2 days and I feel stupid now for not realizing what was wrong. Dummy me
