Ok, ive been lurking for about a week now, and have almost no hair left on my head to pull out. Someone please end the madness...
I got the kindle from my mother. She states it was in perfect working order last she used it. I try to deregister, it work, I register it. All her things are still there. I do a factory reset (not connected to the internet) but it just doesnt and theres my mothers name in the corner again. I repeat this process 5 times. I say to hell with it. I load some .mobi books from Calibre. They load perfectly. I open, they read fine. I press the home button... POOF they are gone. I BUY a book from Amazon. I download it, open it, read a little, home, POOF, gone. I contact Amazon customer support. They ensure its unregistered from my mothers account. Same thing, all my mothers books still there, mine just vanish. They are perplexed, offer no solution. I use Kubrick to try and restore it to true factory condition. I cannot for the life of me get it into USB downloader mode. IT REFUSES. I read the readme and directions maybe 50 times. I try the DO_FACTORY_RESTORE no results. I format the freaking disk... my mothers go away... I think the worst is over. AND THEY RETURN!!!! The horror.... THE HORROR. Im losing my mind, please help. I |

From the symptoms it appears that the flash memory on the kindle has failed. It sometimes happens in a way that changes only appear to be applied because they are cached in main memory, but revert when the flash is re-read.

As jhowell said, that Kindle has a corrupted eMMC flash chip. See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=2810749 for more details.
If it makes you feel any better, you got tripped up by a very rare bug. ![]() When your mother said it was in perfect working order, she clearly didn't know what she was talking about ![]() ... You could fix it... if you have the parts from another (broken) Kindle Touch. Alternatively, there are probably places you can get an eMMC chip that will fit in the Kindle. But that kind of hardware repair is beyond the skills of many people. |
