Missing book
I just had a book disappear on me. I read it yesterday and when I went to read it today it was not found. I do an automatic connection at 8:00 everyday and see the missing book referenced in the regular log at around that same time. It was referenced with Command SendBooklists. A few other books in this list are missing as well but some are not. The missing book in question is One Second After - William R. Forstchen.epub.
Also when I looked for missing books and sorted by date updated CC the list was not sorted by date updated. I sent a log. Edit: I deleted the book using the missing books list and when I returned to the main display the books were sorted by title. My default sort is Date Calibre. If I just look at the list of missing books and don't delete any and return the books are in correct sort order. Last edited by Purple Lady; 04-19-2016 at 06:28 PM. |

Thanks for the report. Unfortunately I can't find anything in the log that indicates that CC deleted the book file. With one rare exception, CC logs whenever it deletes a book file. I have added logging for that exception. I have also added a check to the "read book" function to verify that the book is actually there just before it launches the reader app.
The log does show that metadata for that book was downloaded during 4 autoconnects. The file was still there after the first 3, so it seems that autoconnect isn't the culprit. This leaves us with the question: how did the file get deleted? The only suggestion I can make is that the SD card file system might be damaged. Does your phone support being mounted as a disk (by a cable) on your computer? If so, you should be able to run a disk check on the SD card. If not, do you have a card reader attached to your computer? If so then you can use that to check the disk. Is there any sequence of taps in your reader app that could delete a book file? Given that the book is on an SD card I suspect the answer is no. Is it possible that something like ES file explorer ran and "cleaned up"? I know I am clutching at straws. ![]() Regarding the problems with sorting after running find missing books: the intention was that a sort in missing books get redone when going back to the book list. Clearly it wasn't happening. I fixed that. |

I didn't think CC deleted it but I figured I might as well check. I was wondering why metadata would be updated everyday, but forgot that I update date read so I can sort on other devices. I also kew that I read it the day before unlike my other couple of missing books.
I'll check the sd card. My Tab S is on Kitkat with the sdfix installed so any app can write or delete to the sdcard the same as jellybean could. But there is no way I know of to delete using Moon+ - their recent list doesn't even have book delete as a choice. I looked at ES File Explorer cleanup and it doesn't have much checked as default, and I don't use it anyway. I like to choose myself what to delete. |

I think I found what deleted my books - Mantano or whatever it's calling itself now. I tried to use the sync and neglected to notice that it will move your books in order to sync for some odd reason. Since sync requires you to have books in one specific folder it's not compatible with CC.

![]() Looking at that screen capture, my guess is that you can tap on the sync folder and change it to whatever you want. I am sure that the default for Mantano isn't "Calibre_Companion". What isn't clear is whether or not sub-folders are allowed. However, I also suspect that things won't go well if the sync folder is on an SD card when a device runs Android 5 or later. The permissions will get messed up for sure. Putting these two suppositions together, I suspect that if CC stores books in main memory in a one-level-deep folder, and if Mantano is told to sync from that folder, then things will work "better". What exactly is Mantano syncing? Is it actually copying books between devices? |
