Free (nook/Kindle) The Peaceful Wife: Living in Submission [Xtian Marriage Self-Help]

The Peaceful Wife: Living in Submission to Christ as Lord by April Cassidy is her inspirational marital advice guide for women, free courtesy of Christian publisher Kregel.

Currently free, probably just for one day @ B&N (also UK), Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK). Might also be free at Google Play in the US; it doesn't seem to exist at all in their store in Canada.

Description
In today's workplace, women are often rewarded for having type A personalities: driven, demanding, ambitious, and strong. Yet when it comes to their marriages, those same traits can backfire. After all, no one goes into marriage hoping for a promotion. What is a wife to do?

April Cassidy knows this struggle firsthand. She thought she was a great Christian wife and begged God to make her passive husband into a more loving, involved, godly leader. Instead, God opened her eyes to changes that she needed to make, such as laying down her desire for control and offering genuine, unconditional respect—not just love—to her husband.

Cassidy’s conclusions may be as startling to readers as they were to her, but The Peaceful Wife shares how she and many others have learned to reorient their lives to biblical commands—resulting in healthier, happier marriages. In the end, you'll find The Peaceful Wife a powerful path to God's design for women to live in full submission to Christ as Lord.

Does anyone write Christian marriage self-help books where the wife doesn't have to submit to the husband? I'd like to see a freebie where each spouse is expected to be an equal partner in the marriage, with more realistic problem resolution.

You may have been asking a rhetorical question, but in case you weren't, I will take it at face value.

I don't know if people who hold the view(s) are in a majority of those who call themselves Christians, or not. But it's a pretty sizable percentage. At any rate, the percentage of non-academic conservative books published for Christians is far greater than the liberal ones, on the male headship matter at least. I don't know why that is true, but it is.

That's the main reason, I think, that there are less deals and freebies on them to be found. And if we can't find them, we can't post them. And, I've noticed that the liberal publishing houses (that would go against the male headship view) seem to do less deals and freebies types of promotions than the conservative ones. Why not? Again, I don't know. But if there aren't many such promotions from them, there will tend to be a corresponding lower number that we can post.

In case you are wondering, the reason that there are so many who believe in male headship in marriage is that the Bible (in particular, the New Testament) has some pretty plain passages that teach that. People who argue against it either have to find some way to argue against the evident meaning of those passages or have to deny the inspiration of the New Testament. Those who take the latter position say that the human writers, like Paul (to whom most of the male headship in the New Testament are attributed) were just ordinary people and weren't "inspired" in any sense different from what other people would be (as being "inspired" by a beautiful sunset, etc.). This leads those who hold that position to make such statements as, "Paul was a woman-hater, that's why he said those things," etc.

This is the only post that I'll make on this thread on the subject, in order that I not be guilty of starting or continuing an off-topic discussion.

Quite probably they exist somewhere out there, but as I'm very definitely not the target market for any faith-based religious books, much less Christian marriage self-help ones, I personally would not know where to find them and just post the easy catches from the known publishers who've made a habit of giving us stuff. Although the freebied relationship advice guides that do pop up which I've posted over the years do seem to have a definite trend towards a noticeably… asymmetrical non-reciprocal viewpoint upon shared responsibility (especially the infidelity-coping ones).

That said, we have gotten a handful of relatively positive-sounding Christian divorce self-help books aimed at women, and maybe a few joint couples counseling things whose blurbs read like they held both parties at fault (though they mostly did seem to be on the less faith-based side).
