epub to LRF

I have been told by your folks that LRF is dead. However in looking at the list of LRF that I have posted at
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=126
views/downloads of one hundred or more seem to tell me that LRF is still alive and running.

Converting with Calibre (epub to LRF) will take one to four tries with a different error reported each time it fails.

It would be a wonderful New Year, if this were fixed, then Calibre would truly become the fine tool advertised.

It might be helpful if you posted some of those error messages.

LRF is dead. The only people that cannot use ePub on a Sony Reader may be some that own a 500. All the others can handle ePub. So if LRF was to go away, nobody would be unable to read the eBooks you post.Given that a 500 is old, the battery is most likely not working well, the screen is dark. It's slow and it's heavy. So really,LRF can go with little to no disruptions.

The last time I mentioned an error is the LRF conversion, I was told that the person who was maintaining this was no longer doing so.

I hear what you are saying. Why would there be 100 views/downloads if no one can read them? And why does MobileRead continue support?

I think you might find there are people who have automated downloading all ebooks that are added.

I didn't say nobody could read LRF. I'm saying that if LRF was not there, most Sony Reader owners could read the ePub version. The PRS-505 on up has a firmware that supports ePub. Sony had US owners send back the 500 for an update to read ePub. Not everyone did that and not everyone who owns a 500 is in the US. So the only people affected are those who only own a 500 that does not handle ePub. Does anyone only own a 500 that is used for reading?I would think most would have moved to a different Reader and/or a tablet.

So the hassle is not worth the return given how old the 500 is.

These 100 or more views of 3-6 views per book. There is no real amount of people grabbing LRF. I have to agree with PeterT that it's most likely automated downloading.

I've created a thread to try to find out how many people read LRF.

So far according to my poll, nobody who voted uses LRF. Give it up, it's deader than dead.

Mate - you could make a lot of moolah running polls for the likes of Rupert Murdoch

Your poll has only been running for 12 hours and we're in the middle of Christmas/New Year holidays. Hardly an reasonable sample. Much like Murdoch polls, that only call land lines. on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Well, I still like LRF better than ePub. And I still have LRF on my reader. I don't think LRF is anymore obsolete than some other formats you can convert to in Calibre.

I just converted 5 ePubs to LRF and had no problems. I am using Calibre 2.47, Windows 7 Prof.

Did you make sure the format you are converting from has no problems?
I am not sure what this error means: AttributeError: 'TextStyle' object has no attribute 'baselineskip'
Did you save a debug log or just the show job details?

The point I am trying to make is that if LRF went away, hardly anybody would be unable to read the eBook because there would still be the ePub version. If there was no LRF, you could read the ePub. That's what I am getting at. Yes, some may prefer LRF over the older version ePib that has no justification, but you could still read if you had no LRF. Plus, you can do your own conversion if you want. So would anybody be stuck? Nope. Since it is Calibre being used for the conversion, anyone who wants LRF can still have it.

Kovid has stated that changes to fix any errors in the LRF conversion will not happen. At one point in the past if you did an epub to epub conversion first you would find that the subsequent epub to lrf conversion works fine. I don't know if this is still the case.
