Video formats
It would be nice to see a few video formats added so such files could be copied across. For example mp4 files.

CC is prepared to accept any "book extension" recognized by calibre. Currently the extensions recognized by calibre are:

Mp3 does work fine. I add mp4 files all the time to Calibre without a problem. I did suspect, though that it probably did not formally support them.

@NetAmigo - you can add non ebook type files to calibre (via Shift/A, command line, or Windows Send to). As for ebook file types, calibre will only allow only one of any non-ebook file type per book.
Calibre will not change the non-ebook type files in any way, apart from file names (see below) - e.g. by embedding its metadata, adding its cover, converting etc. But calibre will handle file operations for non ebook files in the same way as it does for ebook files', e.g. if the authors or title are changed etc. Save to Disk, Copy to Library and Send to Folder also work fine with non ebook file types. As does the new Open With feature. AFAIK all of the above is 'supported'. Otherwise, Shift/A etc, wouldn't work, and Check Library would report an error if it encountered any non ebook files. I don't use Send to Device or CC - so I won't speak to those. BR |

use the right tool for the job. e.g. ES file explorer (free) can access any video file you place in a shared folder on a local PC, and you can make that a favourite view for easy access. In fact you can also then "play" the video without copying it across first, ES will open it in your preferred video player app ( e.g. VLC, MX video player) and stream it for you.
if you want to be more sophisticated, get the plex app and set a plex media server on your pc with access to your video files. that way you get pretty shelves, 7 metadata to browse through, so long as you stick to plex naming convention it can find all the relevant background info/ metadata for movies and tv shows so for books, use calibre on PC + calibre content server + CC + reader apps for video or music the equivalent is plex media server on PC + plex app, or simple PC file share (over LAN) ES file explorer + video player app. paid for plex pass has many more bells and whistles to explorer. |
