Problem sending to device

Hi to all,

I am trying since yesterday to send some .mobi files to my paperwhite but alas, they don't appear in the documents list of Amazon and of course they don't get downloaded in kindle.

I am using the same system i was using in the past to do the exact same procedure, i converted the documents using the same version of calibre, used the same e-mail that i sued in the past etc but without luck.

Moreover, i tried different things, like registering a different email in the Amazon settings, sending the attached filed in batch or each in a different email, used the android send to kindle app etc but with no luck.

Anyone else experiencing the same problem??

hi...i think it's because Amazon removed the free cloud offering to paid only tiers (11.99 or 59.99 pa). there's a free 3mth trial period which i tried and my send to kindle worked.

the kindle personal documents storage was merged with amazon cloud a while back. so i suspect this is what has happened.

in short you can't get free send to kindle / syncing of personal documents...which sorta sucks.

someone please tell me i'm wrong

It would indeed appear that Amazon are no longer offering free storage for personal docs, but only paid plans. Hardly a surprise!

Any other idea on how to fix this problem? I've event tried to delete some of the files in my "Your content" tab just to be sure, but still nothing..

What format are the books that you're trying to send? The "old" Mobi format or AZW3?

The old mobi format. Also one of the documents i have sent it unaltered in the past to kindle without any problem

It sounds like the OP needs to call Kindle support. Just because there is no more free cloud storage shouldn't mean that the conversion/send to kindle service shouldn't work. That used to be the way it worked, before they added cloud storage.

I've manually uploaded the files for now but next time i will try the "add to archive" unticking. This is not an option with the e-mail delivery though

it took awhile for me to find how to remove archiving from sendtokindle email.

log in to your amazon account > manage your content > settings

find "personal document archiving"...disable it.

the sendtokindle email will now work

Interesting...I just tried an experiment. I registered my Kindle to a new account, that had no Amazon Drive storage at all, and checked the settings to make sure that "personal document archiving WAS enabled. I then emailed a document to my Kindle's email address, and it went through, and was available in my Kindle Cloud. I also registered the Send to Kindle app to the new Kindle account, and sent a different document directly to the Kindle Cloud, bypassing my Kindle. Both documents are available in my Kindle cloud now.

This confirms what I was told by an Amazon representative yesterday...there are NO CHANGES to the way the Kindle cloud works--the Kindle cloud archiving will still work the same as before, and whispersync for personal docs is unchanged.

vm - It's possible that there was some sort of glitch yesterday while the new systems were being brought online. Might be worth trying again today.
