[Solved] Send to Device and Converting
Hi everyone,
I am not sure that my post should be sent in that section. I would like to know what exactly means "preferred format for sending" when sending to device. Does it means that all the books will be converted in the preferred format? There is no way to keep the original format? I have both epub and pdf, that I would like to send and keep in those format on my device. Last time I did, the preferred format selected was epub, so all my books on my device were epub. But as the conversion pdf -> epub is not the best one, some of my pdf converted in epub on my device are not really readable. Is there a way to keep the original format when sending to device? Thanks Sylvain Last edited by sylvain62; 03-13-2015 at 02:41 AM. Reason: Solved |

It means when you are sending to device and there are no formats available that the device supports, calibre wlll autoconvert from the best available input format to the format that the device prefers abve all others.
Example: you have a PDF and MOBI, and are sending to a device that only accepts EPUB. MOBI is a better input than PDF, so MOBI gets converted. The device wants EPUB, so it is converted to EPUB. Now an available format can be sent (all formats are retained in calibre) so EPUB is sent to the device. If the device accepted EPUB but would settle for PDF in a pinch, the PDF is sent as-is. This requires that both EPUB and PDF are checked in the device driver. calibre will never automatically delete a format! Last edited by eschwartz; 03-10-2015 at 01:42 AM. |

Thank eschwartz
So now I have to pay attention to the format my device supports. I think it should support .pdf I don't know what I did last time, I have the feeling that everything was converted in epub. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe the application I use on my device could also be the problem. Even if I almost sure that my application is able to support almost all common formats available (MantanoReader) Thanks Sylvain |

Well, you need to tell the device driver in calibre which formats to send. For a smartphone you that might mean any app you have on the device.
See the droppdown under "Device" in the calibre toolbar (while your device is connected, naturally). Specifically, the option "Configure this device". Tick the formats you want to be sent. |
