Takes 8 minutes every time device is plugged in
Whenever I plug in a tablet (Samsung galaxy 3 8.0) Calibre takes 8 minutes or so updating it's info. I have it set in the Wizard as Android Tablet with Kindle.
Looking through these forums, I found that this problem could sometimes be fixed with some plugins by customizing the plugin not to pick up meta data. However, I can't tell what plugin Calibre is using. I've turned off all the ones with Kindle in the name, Android in the name, Samsung in the name, and a generic one or two I think. When I first set up Calibre, it asked me if I wanted Calibre to manage the device. I said "yes", which apparently was a mistake. But when I go back to run the Wizard, it doesn't give me the choice of not having Calibre manage the device. It assumes I have a device and want it managed. So, how do I get Calibre to stop running the fetch job every time I plug in, or speed up the process? How do I find out what Plugin (if any) Calibre is using (It's not in the job details panel) ? Thank you! Mark |

Actually for an Android device you might want to customize the directories that are searched on it for eBooks.
After the device is plugged in and has been scanned by calibre, click on the down arrow besides the "device" button in the calibre menu and select "configure this device" and select what directories on the device should be scanned for books. |

I tried editing my scan list. Now the time is up to 13 minutes!
I'm guessing that it uses the MTP plugin. But the MTP plugin has no checkbox to turn off acquiring meta data. Thanks, Mark |

Bizzare. When I customized MY connection time went from 5+ minutes to seconds.

Have you tried using Calibre Companion instead? I find that it's a lot faster than using the MTP connection.

Apparently I hadn't pruned enough. It turns out that the Android folder was still listed, and under it are dozens of sub-folders, only one of which has books I want to track.
Once I pruned the sub-dirs down, the time was much better. Thanks for the help ! |
