Food Family Style: Simple and Tasty Recipes for Everyday Life by Leigh Oliver Vickery, who apparently owns a food company according to her bio-blurb, is her guide to Exactly What It Says In The Title, with accomodations made for special dietary needs, free courtesy of Christian publisher Baker's Revell imprint.
This is fairly nifty, with each recipe marked with icons which tell you at a glance whether it fits into certain helpful categories such as freezer-safe, gluten-free, slow-cooker friendly, vegetarian, etc. The author also gives some practical dining-together tips for family unity such as suggested small talk topics, involving the kids in meal preparation, and age-appropriate portion size. Also, as you might expect for a cookbook, this is incredibly low on "inspirational" content, and more secular types will be able to make good use of it, as well as dedicated believers. Pretty much the only really obvious faith mentions that I spotted upon skimming were the obligatory thanks to $DEITY in the introduction and a mention further in on a belief that dessert was one of God's blessings or whatever, which is a sentiment I have no disagreement with. (ETA: apparently there's some kind of brief thanksgiving/grace-type prayer-ette ![]() Currently free, probably just for one day @ B&N (may also drop in the UK), Amazon UK (slated to drop in the main store), Kobo & iTunes & Google Play (all available to Canadians), and ChristianBook (ADE-DRM ePub available worldwide). Description In a time when the family meal is increasingly losing out to music lessons, sports practices, and the general busyness of life, it's time to rediscover the joys of cooking and eating together as a family. Time may be short and budgets may be tight, but these 365 mouthwatering recipes are sure to draw families into the kitchen and around the table day after day. From tasty breakfasts, soups, and salads to sumptuous main dishes and desserts, Food Family Style delivers just what readers' families ordered. Throughout the book are symbols indicating recipes that double easily, freeze well, are gluten-free or vegetarian, can be made in a slow cooker, and more. And since there's more to mealtime than just the food, this innovative book also includes tips about how to involve kids in meal preparation, meaningful conversation starters, and simple ideas to bring warmth to your home.
