I seem to have "lost" Calibre

Embarrassing to admit.

Basically, when I start calibre, I get the word "Calibre" in the task bar, but no application. Preferences does show in the menu, but nothing happens when I select it.

I was trying to add some new icons, made some changes to some files and...bad things have happened. I'm sorry I don't remember the files I edited (it was just before xmas and this is my first time back) but it was based on the post in this forum somewhere about customising icons. Obviously, I haven't followed instructions somehow.

Woe.

I'm thinking uninstall Calibre and re-install and re-load my library. Is this a good thing or bad thing to try? With 3000+ titles, I'm a bit nervous.

Mac 10.10
Calibre 2.12 ish (I'm not sure).

Not being sure of what you did, my first suggestion would be to trash the old copy of Calibre from the Applications folder. After that, download a fresh copy and install it. Your settings and library should be unaffected.

If that doesn't work, remove the ~/Library/Preferences/calibre folder. You will lose some of your settings, but your library will be unharmed (once you tell calibre where it is).

Okay, it's back.

Just in case anyone needs to do the same thing, I discovered that I had to uninstall Calibre using my CleanMyMac app, rather than a simple uninstall (which apparently doesn't clean up properly).
