Kobo Arc 7

I have been using my Kobo for nearly a year now and I am very happy with it. The biggest problem I have with is when I turn it on it takes an age to start up. I mean we are talking about 10 minutes before it has fully loaded everything. Why does it take so long ? I have never seen another tablet that is so slow to boot up.

I've only had mine 3 weeks and it starts up in about 20 to 30 seconds.
I'm not going to be much help but I would think there are a lot of unnecessary files that are causing your problem.
There is an free app available, I think it's called "Sweep" that will cleanup and remove unwanted files. Similar to what you would do to a slow PC.

Ten minutes is definitely excessive. Bompa65's suggestion that you clean out the caches and apps that are gunking the tablet up is a good idea. Also, if you have everything backed up and synced you might consider doing a factory reset of the tablet. This will get things moving the way they did in the beginning, but should only be done if you have taken the necessary precautions for making sure you have your apps and data back.

So this doesn't always happen with Kobo? I'm planning to buy one (per recommendation) for my father as a christmas gift. He's so against touchscreen gadgets until I bought him an android phone where he got to read his favorite thriller books.

I think it is generally atypical for a Kobo tablet (the more recent ones) to behave like this.

The larger problem with Kobo is that they have called it quits with their tablet business, and what is out right now is the end of the line, as far as we know.
