				Cases on the Mini

I picked up an Ipad Mini with Retina over the weekend, looking for a case that will maintain the light and thin aspect of the device. Do you guys use a case when reading and what do you use.

I bought the Apple case because it was light and thin. I really like it more than I expected. The cover also folds so you can prop the device up, e.g. on an airplane seat tray and watch movies on a flight. I like the sleep / wake function when you open the cover too.

I tried a few cases first ... and didn't like any. Then I reluctantly bought the Apple case and, much like Bookworm_Girl, I liked it far more than expected.

Case. I didn't like the cover very much. I found the texture of the metallic back of the iPad not to my liking and I found that I would usually just pull the Cover off rather than try to fold it back.

I too have the Apple "smart case" and like it a lot. It provides a good level of protection without significantly adding to the bulk of the device.

Personally I don't like the covers I've seen as they don't appear secure to me and of course they don't protect the back of the iPad. | |

I too bought the Apple Smart Case for $69. It was nice, though way too expensive and it was scratching a bit on the back. You can get a great Poetic case that is VERY similar to the Apple Smart Case for around $20 on Amazon. I returned my Apple Smart Case and decided to go with the Otterbox Defender case because I take my mini with me to do photography out doors and I wanted the ultimate protection. |

The smart case is a bit expensive, I'm using a Otterbox on it now but it does add a little bit of Heft.

Well in my case, I like the extra thickness as it makes it much easier to hold. Thin is in and I guess nice until I have to hold it. The newest iPads are so thin they make my hand ache trying to hold them. I prefer the thickness of the Otterbox and the feel of it too.

Maybe not as slim, but I'm really looking forward to my Gripster leather case. And like jswinden, I find the bare device really too thin to comfortably hold, so a bit of extra thickness is just fine.

I use the "Incipio Feather Case" to protect the back of the Mini and to provide better grip and some bump protection. Nothing on the screen. When traveling, I toss the Mini into a "Case Logic" neoprene zipper case.

I actually bought the smart case too and love it... if you find the price too steep go looking on ebay, shaves off 20-30% at least. I did that last iPad with a leather cover, not this time though because I was actually, for the first time in my life, early adopting ) |

Kudo is suppose to come out with a new solar battery/case for both the iPad Air and iPad mini this month or next.

My Gripster (for iPad Mini Retina) just arrived. Superb customer service from Native Union, and lightning fast delivery to Australia (Fedex). I've dealt with quite a few cases for iPads and ereaders in the past, and this really is a lovely, solid but slim/light piece of engineering. The rotating stand has infinite angle adjustment in both portrait and landscape (not often seen!), and the elastic hand strap is nicely grippy and a good fit for my hand. Really lovely. |
