Osyter - The Netflix of Books - authors auto in
So dunno if y'all saw this but Smashwords inked a deal with Oyster to create a lending library like Amazon's, except with out limits. No details are give, but here is what there is:
http://blog.smashwords.com/2013/09/s...agreement.html Smashwords authors are all automatically opted in, so check your channels if you do not want your books in this. I plan to make up my mind when they release the details, but figured give everyone here a heads up. |

That's an interesting idea!
I wonder though if there would be a family or household account available. With Netflix, the whole family can watch.
I understand books and video are not the same media or used in the same way, but it would be great if my wife and I could share an account for some cost amount that is less than the cost of 2 separate accounts. I expect I would be a heavy user, while my wife would be a light user. |

I looked up Oyster, it appears only available for iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch (iOS 7+).
https://www.oysterbooks.com/features Oh well a nice idea that is useless to me. |

The link doesn't seem to work anymore but I put Oyster Books into Google and found the site. It does list Android as a platform now.

Smashwords books are also going up on Scribd's reading service. It's very similar to Oyster's program. Does anyone know how to find your books on Oyster? I've been able to locate mine in Scribd and have been promoting them by posting direct links. I'd like to do the same for Oyster.

Thank you, VydorScope. I can't help but wonder how these new services will fare? Will they change the way we access books?
I have an Amazon Prime membership and love the videos. But it's hard to find what I want to watch. That's why I think providing links to books on these new subscription reading plans is more of a service than a promotion. But then, perhaps, I'm looking through self-serving eyes? |
