iPad Safari Scrolling Problem

I have an occasional problem on my iPad Mini Retina with Safari whereby it won't scroll all the way to the bottom of an email. It gets part of the way and them refuses to go any further.

This appears to be in full screen mode.

When I tap on the icon to bring up the email list on the left hand side of the screen, now I can scroll al the way to the bottom of the email on the right hand side of the screen.

Is this a known bug ?

Sounds like an incompatibility between your webmail site and Safari.

It might be the fact that your webmail uses iframes?

Thanks guys, guess I will have to live with it.

I can get round it but it's an annoyance.

There's lots of sites that don't work terribly well with Safari. I suspect it's a browser that many companies don't bother to test against. It might be worth reporting it to your webmail provider.

You might try scrolling with two fingers… sometimes that works when one finger doesn't.

Mainstream email providers spend a lot more time making the webmail interface look good and work properly....

I registered for this site just to respond to this comment as I am a web developer and was looking for solutions as to why my site scrolls properly on every browser except safari.

Guess what, it is not a site issue. Safari (for whatever reason) refuses to scroll to the bottom of the page on on the macbook air I`m testing it on. I know the content is there because if I zoom out I can see the missing content just fine. I can assure you I am WC3 compliant whereas in this case Safari is not. Also, Chrome, which uses the same rendering engine, works just fine. So my case (and likely the OP`s issue as well) IS a safari issue; specifically the "good" folks at apple attempting to take over your dangerous scrollbars.

Bottom line: Safari is a bad browser. Don`t use it. It`s only slightly better than IE 8 in terms of compatibility with modern web standards and it`s not even the browser`s fault; it`s Apple`s poor integration and attempts to babysit you through web navigation.

What browser would you recommend running on an iPad, if not Safari? I wasn't aware that there were any alternatives!

There are literally many browsers available on iOS. Some of my favorites are Dolphin and Atomic. However, you are right in one sense; Safari has a "favored nation" status in iOS such that some default browser situations will always use Safari.

Also, at one time, Safari was allowed to use some features of the iOS that other browsers were not allowed to. This gave them some performance advantages back then. I think that is no longer the case after a large outcry.

There are many alternatives although, as Larla says, you have to work for them. In most apps, clicking on a link will open it either in the app's internal browser on in Safari. So if you use an alternative browser you have to copy the link, then paste it in your browser.

I use iCab Mobile for most of my browsing, because it has more functionalities as Safari. For instance I have it set to present itself as Safari for Mac, in order to avoid being routed to crippled mobile sites. Also, I mostly browse the same sites and they are on my "quick links" page. I also use Safari when I follow a link and I'm too lazy to do the copy-paste thing, or for some sites where I have saved the password in Safari. For some reason iCab won't let me do that.

Chrome and Opera Mini are also available. I installed them a long time ago, but rarely use either so I cannot say how good or bad they are. I mostly just use Safari. But I'm not a big web surfer using my iPad. I still prefer web surfing on a computer.

I think Chrome supposedly can be configured to sync bookmarks and what not with Chrome on your other devices, so that would be a plus. I'm not a fan of Chrome on the PC or Mac though. I mostly use FireFox on my PC and my Mac and like that I can sync bookmarks. Unfortunately, the FireFox developers have a statement on their website saying they won't be creating a FireFox for iOS.
