Questions on Old GlowLight

I bought a new Simple Touch GlowLight(older model) for $49.00 last Friday because every once in a while the library won't have the kindle version of a book I want to borrow. I thought this was a great deal, but man there are a lot of bad reviews for this model. My question is are all of the screens bad on this model? It sounds like the screens damage VERY easily, and even though I bought it cheap, I still don't want a defective product. I'm debating on whether to return it to B&N.

Did anyone have an older GlowLight where the screen was fine on it?

Thumbs up

Some of us got lucky, I guess. Or Barnes&Noble fixed their problem with these screens. I bought my simple touch with glowlight a few months ago and I am very happy with it. No screen problems. But of course I do keep it in a case and Never drop things on the screen. In fact, I am so happy with mine that I just today bought a $50 one from Best Buy so that I can try to root it.

I had absolutely no problems with my screen.

I chose not to register, though, and had the problem with basically having the charge run out daily.

Its luck of the draw really. few had no.problems, many develop them later on. i dont think they ever improved on the screen after the complaints. Bottom line its still a fragile screen and will most likely break if not handled with kid gloves. Tears in the screen are notorious on this model. I wouldnt worry at $50 you will most likely upgrade next year.

I've had mine 11 months, it's been fine. I definitely haven't been overly careful with it, although I do generally keep it in a case and haven't dropped anything on the screen so far (though I have dropped it on the floor a few times without the case). Like Kaysclie, I'm probably going to get another one now that the prices are so low.

Success

Whew...I just finished rooting my new simple touch glowlight. It was as easy as they say. Now I have to do some reading to figure out how to install some reading apps, like cool reader, the kindle app, etc. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Mine never had pinholes some people complained of, but the contrast is poor and after reading a while the text gets wonky and looks like a printer running low on ink. It's weird and hard to read on and I stopped using it about 6 months ago and bought a Kobo instead.

I've had mine for just over a year and couldnt be happier with it. I've never had any problems with the screen or text.
