how to backup?

Newbie here. I have done the basic jailbreak and nothing else at this stage. Before I proceed I would like to backup. What backup method do you recommend?
Thx.

Is it not recommended to backup the kindle before continuing with any mods?
I assumed before progressing any further that a backup of the software on the device would be recommended in case the device gets bricked? Is this not necessary?

The only thing in the Amazon image that has been changed is the addition of our developer certificate to the set of update certificates.
(one small file added).

Everything else is being placed in the USB storage area that you see over the USB cable, same storage are used for all user additions.

The USB storage area is only a small part of the file system, you are asking about backing up that parts you can not see over the USB cable.

Ah, - - -
Other than the dev cert. we haven't changed the part you don't see
and
As you just found out - Amazon provides complete system image files for the Kpw(1)

Which amounts to what you are asking to back up - as if you didn't already have the original.

Having backup wouldn't harm. Kindle_Touch_Hacking#Backup

Adjust according to your setup.

on the Host:
Code:
nc -l 31337 | dd of=mmcblk0.bin
Note: depending on your version of netcat, this may not work. If you have an old version of netcat, try
Code:
nc -l -p 31337 | dd of=mmcblk0.bin
instead.

on the Kindle:
Code:
dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 | nc 192.168.15.201 31337
(I've changed dd command line to backup whole OS-accessible eMMC area at once.)

If you'll use this recipe, be patient and wait for completing of backup. It might take a lot of time. You will need also free space of some Gigabytes on Host.
