recommended PPC forums?

Craig, do you (or anyone) have any PPC forums that you visit regularly? I've been perusing a few but am not totally satisfied. Wondering where folks like to browse...

Reckon I'll answer my own question, as I've found a couple:
  • Aximsite: an extremely active forum dedicated to ... the Axim. Lots of good info ... if you've got an Axim. I like the place, but it's pretty swamped and often slow loading. The posting pace is very rapid and there's no way to really follow everything.
  • PocketPCAddict: a great no frills site with very active frontpage. Haven't spent any time in the forums there yet.
There's a few others that I'm starting to peruse. I'll post 'em as I find 'em.

I have found that the ebook sections of these forums are full of confused souls who don't know the way to MobileRead. I'm dedicated to bringing light to these dark corners of the net and showing them the way forward lies at MobileRead.com.

It depends on what you are interested in as well, ignatz.

If you like games, try a few like PocketMatrix (www.pocketmatrix.com) or PocketGamer (www.pocketgamer.org/homeindex.php) for general games sites.

I regularly visit Pocket PC Thoughts (www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/index.php) which is quite good, as is Geekzone (www.geekzone.co.nz/) which also gives a 10% discount on any Handango purchase. Actually, I think I saw a post from you in the ebook forum of pocket pc thoughts this morning

Some things you MUST try when you get your Axim:

- Pocket Doom/gfdoom (home.freeuk.com/gamefreaks/pql/gfDoom.htm), you'll want the ARM version - free
- Pocket Quake (quake.pocketmatrix.com) - free
- PocketTV, very good and free MPEG player (www.pockettv.com). You also need this: http://mobile.pocketmovies.net
- Space Trader for PocketPC (www.spacetrader.co.uk/st/) - free
- Valentin Iliescu Chess - very good and free chess game (www.valil.com/chess2/)
- ubook!!! My favourite reader (www.gowerpoint.com/uBook_down_nf.html) - free
- PocketDOS, shareware DOS emulator, now with CPU plugins to emulate 386 and 486 CPUs (www.pocketdos.com)
- PocketClive, free Spectrum emulator (pocketclive.emuunlim.com)
- PocketSNES, free SNES emulator (http://paqpark.nuclearfallout.net/pr...pocketsnes.php)

That's just a few to start you off

Craig.

Thanks for the links Craig. Yes I have been posting on PocketPCThoughts and I had forgotten it. Only just started there too. I tend to begin in the ebook sections and spiral out from there.

I haven't been a big gamer on my Palm, but I had forgotten all the emulated games that I can play on the PPC. Perhaps I should have ordered the 624 MHz model after all! I love the old text adventure games and I used to be a big SNES player back in the day. Is there a Sega Genesis emulator? What about a MAME style arcade emulator? I'll be eager to try these out...

I've never played with MAME, but there's at least one MAME emulator out there (fairly old I think, but possibly worth a try, even on your Axim): http://www.mameworld.net/imame/

Go to http://www.retrogames.com/pocketpc.html

It's the best site for all types of PPC emulation. Hmmm, I need to go check it out again myself...

Wow, if you like old arcade games you owe it to yourself to check out MAME. I haven't used it in a long time now, but I had several hundred ROMs on my machine including nearly all my old favs like Elevator Action, Rolling Thunder, Kung Fu Master, etc., etc.

Hmmm, sounds like fun. I lived in the arcades during the 80's...

Then you have to check it out. I spent far too much time playing these games, and having them all available to play again (for free!) was a really powerful experience for me. The newer versions of MAME support pretty much EVERY game that you can think of that was ever in any arcade. The only ones that are difficult to play are the ones that had oddball controls like Ikari Warriors with its rotating joystick. Trackball games don't port over all that well either...
