I just randomly tried two of these comic links and they came up, "Sorry, this comic isn't available at this time". I changed the date and they still didn't come up.
Am I doing something wrong? Also, is there an explanation somewhere of how to add links like this to the .ixl? Thanks! |

Hmm weird. I tried one randomly, http://www.kingfeatures.com/features...aboutMaina.php
and it worked fine. Did you try loading it with Internet Explorer? I am afraid you must add each link individually to the .ixl file. I would say link-depth=0 and maybe a imageresize (though should not be needed). I admit the comics pages are not 100% pdafriendly. |

Yea, I use IE 6. I tried Zippy, and whatever is listed right above Zippy.
I'm more interested in grabbing Doonesbury. Know a link for that? |

Those two you tried work fine for me.
I will keep an eye open for Doonesbury ![]() |

If we can ever get My Yahoo! to work then you'll have Doonesbury (and Garfield and Sequitur and...)

Time to resurrect this thread, for iSilo4 now has the power to directly download these tricky comics!
The secret is that you have to let iSilo "touch" an automatic link with cookies enabled so that kingfeatures thinks you are using a web-browser instead of a download-bot. Otherwise, you will get blocked from any comic that you have not visited prior with a web browser. So, let's say you want to grab Sally Forth? ===Source=== Source: http://www.kingfeatures.com/features...aboutMaina.php (Note: add as many kingfeature comics you want to the source list. The filter can handle them all.) ===Links=== Max link depth: 1 (That's right! NOT zero!) Follow Off-site links: Checked/YES (The actual comic image is served elsewhere.) Follow only links subfolders: unchecked/no Include unresolved: unchecked/no ===URL Filters=== Exclusion (Wildcard): * Inclusion (Wildcard): http://est.rbma.com/content/* (Explaination: we are going to ignore every link except the server with the comic) ===Images=== Include Images: YES (obviously) I suggest enabling improve contrast, dither, Compress (Lossy:None), 8-bit. Lossy compression will give you a smaller file-size, but scrolling will be dog-slow. ===Tables=== Ignore All Table formatting ===Color=== Ignore all background and text colors. ===Margins=== Ignore All Margins and Padding ===Text=== I suggest you remove all line breaks and convert all line breaks to single space. You don't need the text, and the less scrolling you do to get the comic, the better. ===Document=== Set it for Hard or Soft paging (just not rigid). ===Access=== Nothing is needed ===Bookmarks=== Pointless...every stupid page is titled "About this Comic." Oh well. ===Cookies=== Send: Checked/Yes Receive: Checked/Yes ============== That's it! Each comic will be on its own page. The good news is that now you can download KingFeature Comics directly without Alexander's special page. The bad news is that it is SLOW! It takes about 10 seconds a comic. You also have that chunk of text underneath each comic, but that is no big deal. With lossless compression, 8-bit, and no re-sizing, I get about 51kb per comic. Not too bad, and I get a clean comics page with only one graphic (the comic). What I wish iSilo would incorporate is an "ignore all text" checkbox in the "Text" preference page. We can ignore images, why not ignore text? Theoretically, you can add ALL of your Comic pages, and just add inclusion filters for those other sites that also use off-site image servers. I'll have to see if I can convert my comics collection from sitescooper to iSilo pure. Okay, any other Comic servers that people need help with? It's good to be back! |
