What setting to use for Calibre not to modify input files? (Like adding a cover)
One clearly visible addition when you move an ebook into calibre is the addition of a cover.

I don't know but besides clicking on the option for Calibre not to add additional cover do you have click on any other switches in the interface if you want to preserve the book you added to the directory bit-by-bit intact?

Not quite sure what you are saying - but adding an ebook to Calibre does not change the ebook file itself in any way. If a cover is added is as an external file and is not added as part of the ebook file.

That thread is about output, not importing or adding to calibre.

When adding a book to calibre it is not modified.
