Accessing USB-sticks with 2.12?

Hi all,

after upgrading to 2.12 my USB-stick is no longer recognised by my Iliad
I guess this has something to with what is shipped as a bug-fix:

* Disallow USB connection when not in Content Lister: To prevent problems with sporadic disk corruption, the USB connection now only works when the system is in the Content Lister view.

Until the upgrade I used a script to copy news from my USB stick to the Iliad. But this doesn't work anymore, neither does the Iliad display any content if I explicitely check its content navigating to the respective section.
Using the shell, gives the following

> mount /mnt/usb
mount: Mounting /dev/sda1 on /mnt/usb failed: No such device or address

Can anyone let me know if my above guess is right?
And how I can get access to my USB stick again?
