They had a review embargo for a product which has already been announced and for which they've been accepting orders? Is that SOP?

Very much so. Thats why all of the iPhone reviews, Kindle Fire reviews etc. hit within the same hour of one another and all say, "I've had the xx for a few days now and..."

Strange there are no reviews yet. I wonder if it's analogous to when movies aren't released for review because the producers fear bad reviews? I am such a cynic |

It about managing the hype. Reviews trickling in a little at a time won't get as much attention as if every news outlet has a story about it on the same day. | |

They seemed to have achieved the same effect by releasing their own development video. Every tech blog on the web eagerly posted that up like salivating sycophants.

You were right, the embargo lifting must be at hand - see in this article about the Nook Glowlight:http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33198_7...drops-to-$119/ "We'll have a full review of the Kindle Paperwhite shortly..."

While we're waiting, here's a new Amazon video showing the PW basics: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=200954000 |

Thanks for that link. Watching it made me realize it's going to be tricky turning the light on if one starts in a dark room.

That why user experience guys average $85,000 coming out of college. The good ones are worth it. And they would have let Amazon know of the problem with turning it on in the dark.

Perhaps keeping the light at it's lowest setting all the time will be a temporary work around. It may not matter during daylight but one will be able to adjust to when it's powered on in the dark. As to user experience guys perhaps they should have found some Mobileread folks to beta test for them? |
