Walmart: K Fire + $50 card = $199

Our local paper distributes the Walmart flyers on Wednesdays.

Today's flyer has on the front page the Kindle Fire and a "bonus" $50 Walmart gift card for $199.

At the bottom of the page it says, "Event Dates: Sunday, February 5 - Tues, February 14, 2012."

This is in my supplement also, but I am hesitant, as the possible return policy might be. I have always loved the return departments at Amazon and Costco, easy, friendly, no problem, and they always seem to side with the customer rather than against. My experience with Walmart has been different, badly different.

Do returns go to amazon or to Walmart for replacement or refund?
If you return it, does Walmart credit $149 or $199, or 149 + 50 for the credit card.

I was rather waiting, hoping Amazon would offer a similar type credit special, even if credit could only be applied to Kindle pubs.

Unless the Fire is defective and you needed to exchange it, I can't find any other reason I would want to return it. Of course, that's my opinion.

I understand, but one of my K3keyboardwifi ( Family has 3 of them)had to go back within 5 months and Amazon was tremendous, sending me a replacement so I could use the box to mail back the other one. Over the years, I have found that a strong replacement/return policy is normally worth the money. Walmart, not using any personal identification such as Amazon ( member sign in) and Costco ( member number), can not find you on a computer and so it means you have to hang onto the receipt until the warranty period is over. I used to think that they would at least give a Walmart card for the amount if it was in the period but if they no longer carry the product, you are out of luck.

I asked at walmart, but even the return service manager said you have to prove it. No big deal, just thought someone might have heard how Amazon handles it.

Walmart used to have one of the best return policies around. I once got them to exchange a vacuum cleaner that had been crushed in a garbage truck, but I guess some people were abusing it, so they got much stricter.

Thanks for posting that. If I hadn't purchased two tablets (a 7" and a 10.1") in December, I'd take advantage of that promotion and buy a Kindle Fire.

I think you will be fine buying from Walmart. If anything happens within 15 days Walmart will exchange or refund your purchase price, although I don't know how they would handle the $50 gift card. After 15 days all I can say is it's a Kindle, and Amazon will stand behind it during the 1 year warranty period regardless of where you bought it.

You can also buy a Square Trade warranty which is relatively inexpensive and extend that protection to 2 years including accidental damage protection. This is sold on Amazon's website: http://www.amazon.com/SquareTrade-Wa...8274186&sr=1-1

Most of the reviews for SquareTrade on Amazon's website are either 4 or 5 stars. They have a lifetime feedback on Amazon of 96% Positive from 27,000 + customers.

Customers, thieves, and even the customer service desk workers were abusing it. Some customers will try and take anything and everything back. Many many years ago when Walmart sold spark plug wires (they don't any more), I was looking to buy a set and one of the sets on the shelf was obviously the old ones that someone yanked out of their vehicle and returned, and apparently one of the customer service reps actually took them back. I was totally flabbergasted when I saw them. Years ago you could take almost anything back without a receipt and get cash. I'm sure thieves picked up on this and found a way to make some extra cash. A couple of years ago around Christmas my wife tried to take something back without a receipt and they issued a gift card. So yes, while I like a no hassles return policy, I completely understand why some companies have enacted stricter return polices.

Weird as I returned an Acer A100 which is dried up most everywhere and had no problems as I did not have to prove anything. And it was their last one.

I think the service manager is just following specific policies as they interpret them. Thank everyone for their comments. I have purchased many appliances for my rentals with square trade policies and have used 2 of them with excellent results. Both times, they just said to dispose of the dead ones to save return charges. Costco is also using them on their TVs. I gave them 5 stars
Thanks, Jim.

I bought a Fire at Best Buy a few days after Christmas and it had a problem with the screen not recognizing touches. I called Amazon and they sent out a replacement with 2-day shipping. The bad one went back to Amazon.

I'm sure if you have a problem, just deal with Amazon directly.

I stopped in and grabbed one this morning. No flyers in the store, no Fires on the shelf, and no signs at all. They had none altogether. I got one and another guy grabbed one behind me. Kind of a low profile promotion for such a good deal. I wonder if Walmart was just clearing inventory. No matter. Good deal for me.
