Highlighting alternate lines in library view

I've gotten brave and added some custom columns (TBR, Read, Pages) - now, I'm wondering whether there's a way to lightly highlight every other row in the library view, to make it easier to see across the columns what data belongs to which book. or is this a "it would be nice... maybe someday" kind of feature?

Becca, in my Calibre installation, every other row is highlighted a light grey/purple. Is your version of Calibre old? What OS are you on?

I'm in Windows 7, current version (8.35) of Calibre. Now that I look, I can see very, very faint highlighting. Is there a way to make it more distinct?

Ahhh, I think it is a monitor calibration issue then. On my computer, the highlighting in Calibre shows up just perfect. Not too dark so it is distracting but not too light that I can't see it easily.

Why don't you go here and check out your monitor's contrast? Look particularly at the last strip, the grayscale one, in the first section on the page. Make sure you can distinguish between every shade. If you can't, then your monitor needs a brightness and/or contrast adjustment. On the computer I am using right now, an Asus netbook, every shade/block looks distinct from the other.
