Question Best no-frills tablet

Hello there! Gabriel here! I'm in the market for a tablet/e-reader/something and after an exhaustive search I came across this forum. I've a few questions and please bear with the newbiness of them.

I am not interested in gaming apps or viewing movies or the like. I'd like to a tablet which allows me to write notes, do research online and allow me to d/l CDisplay & CView (two comic book readers) to read scanned comics my comic company publishes.

Which is the best tablet/e-reader for this? And also does it come with a USB port?

thank you in advance!

I would look at something like the Vizio 8 inch Android tablet which you should hopefully be able to find for about 200 dollars if you are lucky (list price was originally something like 399 but they are showing up discounted 50% or more over the holiday season).

This tablet is a bit more compact than an iPad (and less than half the price on sale) but still has a really nice crystal clear 8 inch 1024x768 screen (same high overall resolution as the iPad, but an even higher DPI resolution due to the more compact 8 inch screen)

This tablet runs Android 2.3 rather than one of the newer 3.x versions but 2.3 is currently the most widely supported Android version anyway, and is more than adequate for running the free Droid Comic Reader app (which is what most folks use in place of the PC apps CView or CDisplay)

With a 1 GHz CPU and 512k Ram you will find the Vizio Tablet just as fast and responsive as most PC's.

In addition to 4 Gigs of internal flash, you can add up to an additional 32 Gigs on micro SD, which is important since, unlike simple text, graphic novel files can add up quickly.

This Tablet also sports some really nifty features like a front camera for video chat, and GPS, but even if your sole concern is how well it will work as a reader, you probably won't find anything that represents a better value for the money since most inexpensive tablets in the $200 range only have smaller 7 inch 800x600 or (worse) 800x480 screens.

For anime, manga, graphic novels, or simple comix, it's all about resolution and screen clarity, and the only thing you will find that competes with the Vizio (other than another 8 inch 1024x768 Android 2.3 device) is an Apple iPad or iPad2, and then we are talking 2 or even 3 times the money.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 looks pretty nice. It is in-between the larger iPad and the smaller 7 inch tablets like the Kindle Fire.
