Advice: PRS-650 or T1... coming from a 505
Hi there.
Living in Spain, I have the chance to get a PRS-650 from UK for 139 pounds, but was wondering if maybe I should go for the T1 instead? I'm using a 505 right now, which I love, hacked with PRS+. I only use the device for reading, and the reason for the upgrade is mainly the quick access to dictionaries... still, I don't want to lose font customization and folder navigation... I think the 650 better fits my needs, but I have not followed too much the news about the T1, so I really don't know if I'm missing something really good... What would you recommend? Thanks!! |

My personal recommendation:
Take the 650. Reasons: -It doesn't have the glitch with the touchscreen (freezing; auto-scrolling though pages) -same cost - higher qualitiy of hardware (case, metal, look and feel) -You can be sure to be able to use PRS+ (which I very, very recommend!) - if the lack of WiFi dones't count for you, there is at least no downside having the 650 - if the possibility of having a rooted gadged doesn't count, stay with the solid firmware of the 650 If Sony had acted different in the past concerning updates and after-sales-service I would say you could be sure that Sony will fix the obvious problems with the T1. But I do not trust them (based on my experience with this brand). A. Last edited by Analogus; 11-18-2011 at 08:19 AM. |

Agree with everything Analogus said. If wi-fi doesn't matter to you (and it sounds like it doesn't from your post), then stick with the reliable 650 with PRS+ installed.

Thank you guys!
I think it showed.. but I have to confess I was already convinced to get the 650 over the T1 :-) Anyway, seeking for some reassurance :-) PS: I love PRS+ too. It turned my 505 into a new device after changing the default fonts Last edited by yolan; 11-18-2011 at 10:59 AM. |

I wanted wi-fi badly, but after receiving my 950, i love it more than anything. In fact, I have a 650 on the way. (I just upgraded a couple weeks ago) the 650/950 are so beautifully-made, PRS+ make them a joy to use, and if you don't need wi-fi, no downside.
ETA: the 950 does have wi-fi, 3G, but it's fairly limited. |

But you admit that an eReader is something beeing built to READ books ;-)
And that's yolan wants to do ('I only use the device for reading') A. Last edited by Analogus; 11-26-2011 at 12:41 PM. |

Go with PRS-T1. Rooted with Android, you get to have so many added functionalities. Think newsfeed applications, text-to-speech, so many reader apps you wouldn't have to worry about any glitch as you go from a page to the next or dictionary support and probably a lot more as the wiki list of tweaks here continues to get longer.

Personally, I now have 3 650s. One for me, one for my wife, and one spare. Any questions?

I think a major consideration is that the T1 is still buggy. It is much less stable than a 650. I think a 650 would be better for your personal needs. And get an official case. When I bought one, I thought the price a rip-off. I have since changed my mind. It is worth the price. Don't bother with the lighted case. Get a mightybright ultraflex and a AAA recharger.

Thanks, guys
I asked a friend who lives in the UK to get me a 650 and the Sony cover (both discounted at Waterstones!) I think she'll need to order online, because it doesn't seem to be availabe at many street stores... Anyone knows if waterstones online orders take long to be received? Thanks again for all the comments Last edited by yolan; 11-30-2011 at 04:31 PM. |
