EPUB on Kindle?
Okay, so I've browsed through a lot of the topics here, but many seem to be unclear or lack of enough screenshots to finalize my decision.
I want to be able to read my Epubs on my Kindle 3. I am aware of the different OS for Kindle 3 (namely Duokan, FBreader, Qindle, Coolreader). I tried Duokan, was happy that it supported Epub, however I could not get past the menu interface (very Chinese-looking menu and lack of original Kindle font which I've grown to love). My question is, for someone who wants to read Epubs on Kindle, and does not want to convert files using Calibre, and also still wants the Kindle Interface (E.G. : menu looking about the same, same font), what is my best option? (Dropbox also isn't an option for me, I keep WI-FI off at all times.) If you have any suggestions, I appreciate them! |

Just wondering, but what's the problem with converting? You can't view drmed epubs anyways so that's not an issue.

DRM'ed EPUBS are not my problem. The problem is whenever I seem to use Calibre to convert to .mobi, the file does not seems to come out right.
IE: Text becomes all together, no distinction of chapters/ table of contents, justification. Maybe it was just the particular files I was using.. not sure. Plus, I was also (selfishly) looking for a lazy way to do it, since I've had so much trouble with Calibre. Where I could just drag and drop my EPUBs onto the Kindle so I don't have to worry about the book content going psycho nuts on me. xD |

None of the other software will provide you with the Kindle UI, to put it frankly. So either conversion or getting custom with other UIs are your options. But I've found the Duokan library view very similar to (and its usage of folders quite better than) the Kindle software. I'm not really sure if "chinese-looking menu" should point to the fact you didn't switch the language yet? Also, Duokan will permit to use other fonts. However, I've had some compatibility issues with Duokan and western typography.

I did change the duokan to English. My problem was that the menu allowed for you to change the font for all the books you read, but the font for the menu remained the same (a Chinese brick looking font).
Edit : The settings allow you to change font for books but the menu UI does not change font, such as the drop down menus and the book list. If I could change this menu font to my own font (Caecilia), I would be perfectly fine using duokan. Last edited by michaelryannh; 10-07-2011 at 11:14 AM. |

There's an online site which will convert files for you --
http://www.convertfiles.com/ It will convert epub (or other format) files to mobi, pdf, and several other formats. No installing software. Just give it the file location, tell it what format you want it converted to, and it converts it. |

Cool Reader is not a different OS, but an application/program only. Works quite well, I use is regularly for reading epub.
You'd better to buy an other ebook-reader... |
